I’ve travelled to NZ from Tassie three times now to be guided by Glenn…quite simply, he is the best. I can’t wait to get back. Glenn is the ultimate guide…he is an incredibly talented fly fisherman, a skilled outdoorsman, an attentive, caring guide and (importantly) he is great fun to spend time with…both on and off the river. Beachy is a truely top bloke - by that I don’t just mean a superbly capable and experienced fishing guide, rafter, outdoorsman and cook. I also mean a proper decent human being - Funny, compassionate, patient and thoroughly good company, which is also absolutely vital when you’re spending significant time with someone and also putting yourself (and in my case also a loved one) in someone else’s hands.
I did a lot of research and explored a lot of options and it all pointed to doing a 3 day (2 night campout) raft fishing trip with Beach Adventures (GO FISH KIWI).
It’s a thoroughly professional organisation, using excellent quality equipment and delivering a simply exceptional service. My 20 year old son and I were picked up
at the agreed location on time (07.45) and we were transported by Eddie (another top bloke ) to the river entry point. Raft & Equipment fully loaded off we went on our adventure. 3 days, 28 fish, 2 overnights, 2 cracking evening meals and breakfasts and a whole lot of laughs later we met Eddie to take us off the river.
A truely great experience and if we can catch fish and camp for 2 days, then I am pretty sure anyone can. My son had zero prior experience of fly fishing before this trip and I could cast, but that’s about it. Beachy taught my lad enough to get him fishing straight away and it took about a hour before we were into the fish!
I would say you don’t need much if any experience to enjoy this trip. Just an open mind, a “can do” attitude and leave the rest to Beachy, and the rewards will be amazing.
I 100% recommend Beachy and GO FISH KIWI to anyone wanting a fishing experience in NZ, regardless of their ability. If you’re a decent fisherman before this trip I can only imagine what a great time you will have!
